TO THE STUDENTS: 

  • Juniors and seniors interested in exploring Ivy Tech, contact Mrs. Rose in Counseling for information.  
  • Did you miss out on the senior ceiling tile painting day? If so, seniors can still purchase ceiling tiles for $5. Contact Kaleigh Kelley to get a form filled out and the design approved if you are wanting to take a tile home to paint. 
  • Appeal for Credit forms must be turned into Mr. Fischer or Mrs. C Burnett (A105) by this morning (Tuesday, December 13, 2022).  If you receive an Appeal for Credit form and fail to complete it, you will automatically lose your credit for that class.
  • In January, Mt. Vernon will begin an eSports program to compete against other high schools in the state.  Students interested in being a part of the team, should see one of the posters hanging in the school and scan the QR code to complete an application.  If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Kissinger.

  • Winter Formal is December 3rd-MVHS Cafeteria (7pm-11pm)  Be on the lookout!  Tickets will be sold today during lunch. They will also be sold Wednesday, Thursday and Friday after Thanksgiving. They will be $20. If you have a guest that is not a MVHS student, please get a form from the counseling office and return it completed to the main office.  Your guest will not be able to attend if the form is not approved before purchasing their ticket. 
  • On November 28, 2022 all student drivers MUST have a parking sticker displayed on their vehicle to park on school property. Parking stickers can be purchased from Mrs. Tucker in the bookstore for $10.00.  Failure to purchase a parking sticker will result in loss of parking privileges on school grounds and disciplinary action.
  • Donation drive for Evansville's YWCA. The YWCA provides services for domestic and sexual violence and housing for women and girls. Some ideas to donate to the YWCA are body wash/gel, bath towels and washcloths, shower loofah balls, Clorox wipes, fuzzy blankets, new bed pillows, arts and crafts kits for kids, copy paper, deodorant, razors, laundry hampers, fuzzy socks, bandaids, Play-Doh or slime. The items can be dropped off at Mr. Ungetheim, Mr. Bacon, or Mr. Krizan's room until December 9."

  • The Girls Varsity Wrestling team competed in their first wrestling meet of the season with Hannah West placing 1st in her division. 
  • Girls Varsity Swimming placed 2nd in their invitational.  First place finishers were

  • Congratulations to Frank Wertz on receiving Best of Show for “Social Commentary” at the 13th Annual County wide High School Senior Art Show at the Hoosier Salon in New Harmony.   In addition, Lydia Deckard received 2nd Place for “Woven Road” in the 2-D Division.  In the 3-D Division, Kyla Borrego received 2nd place for “The Fox and the Grapes”, and Ava Schneider received 3rd place for “Silenced”.  Gracie DeFur received an Honorable Mention for her Ceramic “The Fall”.

  • Don't be scared! You've got time to order Boo grams! Student Council will be selling Boo Grams October 17-28 every morning in both foyers and Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during lunches. Grams are $1, and will be delivered on Halloween. 
  • Friday night is the 1st round of Football sectionals and we are hosting Owen Valley with kick-off at 7:00 PM.  Tickets are $7 and MVHS passes (including all-season passes, punch passes and athlete sport passes) WILL NOT be accepted.
  • "Freshman Academy field trip forms are due by next week.  Don't delay, turn yours in today.  Extra forms beyond the two you've already been given can be picked up from Mr. Bacon, if you use people skills."

  • Come out Friday for the last regular season home football game.  It is Pink Out in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month.  FCCLA, Booster Club and the cheerleaders will be collecting money for Cancer Pathways Midwest.  There will be buckets for each grade level to see which grade can donate the most!  Bring your school spirit, wear your pink and donate generously!

  • After school detentions will be held again starting Monday, Sept. 19th, in room B116.  All detentions must be served by Thursday, Sept. 29th. 
  • Maty Burnett has been nominated for the MaxPreps Indiana High School Athlete of the Week Award. 
    • The MP AOW awards are decided by fan vote. 
    • Voting is live and will conclude at noon on Monday, Sept. 19. 
    • You may vote as often as you like. The TOP vote-getters (2 or more) will earn awards. CLICK HERE TO VOTE
  • Any student interested in playing PowderPuff football at the Homecoming Pep Session please see Ms. Block or Ms. Burnett before Monday, September 19. This is a FLAG football game and there will not be tackling. We currently need at least 20 more participants in order to run the game. If we do not get any more participants by Monday, we will be forced to cancel the event. 
  • Students, please bring money to lunch next week to vote for a faculty homecoming king and queen. All proceeds will be going to Avery's Place to help build an all-inclusive playground.

CONGRATULATIONS:

  • Girls Varsity Soccer beat Pike Central 4-3, in a shoot out.  Goals were scored by Lera Wilson, Maty Burnett, Sophie Kloppenburg, and Valarie Thompson!
  • Girls Varsity Volleyball beat Princeton 3-0, and recorded 17 service aces!  Mallory Nurrenbern had 10 aces and 11 kills.  Brooke Sledd had 4 aces and 19 digs.  Arlissa Sharber had 29 assists and 7 digs.  Carlotta Pascual and Sydney Deig both had 6 kills.  Haley Duffey had 6 digs.  The Lady Wildcats are now 10-5 on the season.

Vernon Lady Wildcat golfers took home 2nd place in the 13 team Pocket Athletic Conference tournament Monday evening.  The team score of 189 was a season best for the Cats and was second only to Gibson Southern.  Junior Hadley Weatherford earned PAC All-Conference honors with a 7th best score of 44.  Seniors Olivia Culley and Haley Rutledge had 45 and 49 respectively.  Hannah Carr shot a 51 and Jillian Higginson shot a 57 which helped secure the final score.

  • The Mount Vernon High School volleyball team along with the Mount Vernon Junior High volleyball team are partnering and hosting a fundraiser to benefit Rylie Nurrenbern who is battling a severe illness.  Proceeds will be donated to the Nurrenburn Family. CONGRATULATIONS:

Congratulations to the boys and girls cross country teams for their strong performance at Gibson Southern.  Several runners from Mt. Vernon just missed out on receiving ribbons.  Three Mt. Vernon girls did receive ribbons.  Ashley Lilleston placed 24th in the Junior/Senior girls race.  Avery Stills received a ribbon for a 17th place finish in the Freshman/Sophomore girls race.  The highest place of the evening and receiving a ribbon for 15th place was Brynn Davis.

The Lady Cat golfers continued to improve against Mt. Carmel and Princeton, with a 2nd place finish.  The team was led by Hadley Weatherford with a 45, Liv Culley with 51, Haley Rutledge with 52, and Hannah Carr with her personal best of 54.

CONGRATULATIONS:
Varsity Football defeated South Spencer 56-30
Kortez Stewart rushed for 105 yards and 3 TDs, Nicot Burnett also rushed for a TD and threw for 3 more to go with 184 yards passing.  Jackson Clowers tallied 106 yards receiving and 2 TDs.  Nash Hostetter hauled in his 1st career TD.  Defensively, Shane Krieger intercepted the Rebels.  Parker Willard scored a defensive touchdown on a 67 yard return.  Brady Schickel blocked a South Spencer punt as well.  

Girls Varsity Soccer defeated Southridge High School 11-1
8 Goals were scored by Maty Burnett, while Olivia Robels, Valarie Thompson, Ella Sponn each scored a goal.  Ella Sponn and Maddie Maier contributed 2 assists each, and Olivia Robels, Lera Wilson, and Reagan Sullivan each had 1 assist. 

Varsity Volleyball went 2-0 against South Spencer and Washington. Mallory Nurrenbern led the offense with 19 kills, Kaleigh Kelley added 15 kills, Arlissa Sharber 12 kills and Cassidy Jones 11 kills. Cassidy Jones also had 6 aces on the day. Brooke Sledd led the defense with 29 digs, Hannah Seifert added 3 blocks to the defense. Kaleigh Kelley had 37 assists. The Lady Wildcats are now 6-2 on the season and 3-1 PAC conference play.

Girls Varsity Cross Country finished in 15th place at the Evansville Harrison Invite.  Brynn Davis, Avery Stills, Krissy Bazan, Ashley Lilleston, Ellie Blackburn, Izzy Zieren, Destin Gentry, and Avery Fritschle all ran strong races.

 - All books checked out from the Media Center are now due.
 - The National Honor Society will be meeting this Thursday, May 12 at 7:30 am.  If you have a conflict and can not attend, please let Mr. Riedford or Mr. Wheaton know before the meeting. 
         Senior members will be meeting in the cafeteria for their senior breakfast.
         Sophomore and Junior members will meet in the media center.  All members are expected to be in attendance.

TO THE STUDENTS:

  • Volunteers are needed to help with Children's programs at the Alexandrian Public Library this summer.  If you are interested, please come to the library and ask at the front desk for a Volunteer Application Form.  We have lots of fun activities scheduled for this summer.
  • MVHS will be hosting a blood drive on Friday, April 29. You may sign up to give using the google form link that was emailed to you.  To give blood you must
    • Be in good general health and feeling well
    • Be at least 17-years-old, or 16-years-old with parental consent
    • Weigh at least 110 lbs.
  • Concessions will be open at AAG: drinks, popcorn, nachos, pretzels, and candy. Bring cash!
  • Studio B Prom Picture Packets can be picked up in the counseling office this week.
  • After-Prom tickets will be on sale this Wednesday, Thursday & Friday during lunch.
  • MVHS Talent Show Friday April 29th 2:00-3:00pm in the PAC.  If you are interested in participating contact Mr. Baker to set up an audition bakerdb@mvschool.org
SENIORS:
  • If you are planning on participating in the graduation ceremony you MUST order a cap & gown! Using past graduates' cap and gown is not allowed. If you don’t know if you have ordered a cap & gown, please stop by the counseling office and check with Mrs. Martin.
  • The state FAFSA deadline has passed, but the FAFSA can still be submitted to be considered for federal aid.  If you have any questions contact Mrs. Rose. 
  • Applications for the Elizabeth D. Baier Youth Spirit Award are available in the Counseling Office.  Completed applications must be postmarked to the United  Way of Posey County by April 29. This $500 award will be given to a current junior whose residence is in Posey County and who has exhibited outstanding achievement in the following areas: leadership, volunteerism, and community involvement.
CONGRATULATIONS to the following
  • English and Interdisciplinary Super Bowl Teams for qualifying for State competition at Purdue University on May 7.
  • Boys Varsity Golf defeated Bosse shooting a team low score of 173.
  • Coed Varsity Unified Track and Field finishes 1st place at Ev. North.
    • The 100M Dash scorers included Braiden Royal, Jaley Hamilton, Molly Jones, Julia Kingery, Drew Rapp, and Nolan Deno
    • Scoring for the Wildcats was Aiden Paul for the long jump. For the shot put, Nolan Deno, Molly Jones, Drew Rapp, and Abbi Dosher.
    • The 400M Dash included Braiden Royal, Ben Gluekart, Logan Steedman, Jaley Hamilton, and Genna Biggerstaff.
    • The boys 4x100 relay team placed first. The 4x100 members include Logan Steedman, Ben Gluekart, Aidan Paul, and Braiden Royal.
