Before & After School Care
The MSD of Mt. Vernon offers two after-school programs for our students through Thrive and YCare. Read more about each option below.
Thrive Afterschool Care
Thrive provides high-quality, holistic afterschool programming to students in Kindergarten through 8th grades from West Elementary and the Mt. Vernon Junior High School. Thrive does not change any fees to our students/families so that our services are available to those who need them regardless of economic situation. Therefore, our ability to provide these vital services in dependent on the generosity of our community - individuals, organizations, businesses, and foundations. In our programming we strive for the following: - Learning that is experimental, play-based, and cooperative. We value open ended questioning and discovery. - A strong sense of community and engagement among children and adults. - Respect for oneself, for one another, and for our environment. - A sense of civic-mindedness and concern for the wellbeing of the community. All of our programs and activities are based on an understanding of how children learn and grow, and maximize opportunities to learn through play, facilitate empowerment, and teach self-discipline.
Mission Statement
Thrive's mission is to enable every child in the Mount Vernon community to reach their highest potential and be their truest self by providing afterschool programming that is holistic in its approach.
