About MV High Ability & Enrichment

MSD of Mount Vernon offers a number of unique programs that enhance and enrich the academic experience for our students. These programs operate in coordination with our curriculum to offer our students additional support and opportunities throughout their academic careers.

Definition

Indiana defines a High Ability Student as one who “performs at, or shows the potential for performing at an outstanding level of accomplishment in at least one domain when compared to others of the same age, experience, or environment and is characterized by exceptional gifts, talents, motivation, or interests. The state defines students who have the characteristics of gifted students with the potential for high achievement and give evidence of one or more disabilities as Twice-Exceptional. We identify students as high ability in one of the following areas: General Intellectual, Math only or Language Arts only.

Identification

MSD of Mount Vernon, in accordance with the guidelines provided by IDOE, employs a comprehensive approach to identify and support high ability students. Our identification process incorporates various assessments, including the CogAT, i-Ready, SIGS-2, and other data measures.

Services

Our district is committed to providing tailored educational opportunities for high ability students starting from kindergarten through grade 12. We believe in nurturing the potential of high ability learners by offering a wide range of programs and curricular opportunities. Through these initiatives, we strive to provide high-level experiences in various areas, ensuring that each individual's needs are addressed effectively. Whether it be advanced coursework, specialized projects, or enrichment activities, we aim to create an environment that fosters the growth and development of high ability students.
