TO THE STUDENTS:

  • Going into an apprenticeship because you don’t like school? Math skills are used in many trades such as construction workers, electricians, machinists, welders, plumbers, electric line workers, and many more.  So give yourself the best opportunity to be accepted into the trade you want by learning as much as you can while you are in high school! 
  •       67% of new jobs will require some sort of training after high school.  Students should consider certifications, 1 year programs, an associate or bachelor degree, apprenticeship, or the military.
  •       Pictures from yesterday’s scavenger hunt are posted in the cafeteria. 
  •       College Go! Week’s activity tomorrow:  Your future starts here, wear maroon, gray and white!
  • Today is the girl’s last soccer game of the regular season! SAC wants everyone to fill the stands tonight, and the theme is maroon out. The game is 5:30 pm at home. We hope to see you there!
  • Students if you want to join a club please check your email for a link to sign up for club today.
  • All seniors, please fill out the Google Form labeled Senior Ceiling Tiles in your email.

TO THE STUDENTS:

  • Mrs. Kavanaugh’s 3rd & 4th period classes should report to the media center for class today.
  • Today is the scavenger hunt for College Go! Week.  Pictures of MVHS employees when they were in college are spread throughout the school.  When you find one, take a pic.  The first person to find 10 of the 13 and email them to Mrs. Rose at rosear@mvschool.org or text them to  812-266-0330 will win a prize.  Make sure to include your name in the text.  Mrs. Rose will be outside of the auxiliary gym during lunch to assist with college apps and answer questions. 

       College Go! Week’s activity tomorrow:  Your future’s so bright, wear neon!

  • Students can purchase parking tags in the bookstore for $10.
  • Picture Retakes: Thursday, October 13th

TO THE STUDENTS:

  • College Go Week!

Today is military career awareness.  Here are some facts about the US Military: 

  1. There are 1,100 career specialties within the US military.  
  2. Some service members work in occupations specific to the military such as fighter pilots or infantrymen, but many work in occupations that also exist in the civilian world such as nurses, doctors, and lawyers.
  3. There are currently more than 1.4 million active duty personnel which is less than a ½% of the US population.
  4. In the military, you can potentially see the world as the US Military has bases in at least 74 countries. The military is heavily involved in disaster relief.

  • At this time any FCCLA members and those interested in becoming a member should be in Mrs. Schneider’s room for a meeting. Also a reminder all wanting to join FCCLA this year forms and dues MUST be turned in by tomorrow.
  • Reminder to students that ride Bus 3 you will now be riding bus 35 permanently and should wait at circle drive to board the bus after school.
  • Starting next Monday, September 25 you can purchase parking tags in the bookstore for $10.
  • Next week is College Go!   • Girls Varsity Soccer beat Pike Central 4-3, in a shoot out.  Goals were scored by Lera Wilson, Maty Burnett, Sophie Kloppenburg, and Valarie Thompson!
  • Girls Varsity Volleyball beat Princeton 3-0, and recorded 17 service aces!  Mallory Nurrenbern had 10 aces and 11 kills.  Brooke Sledd had 4 aces and 19 digs.  Arlissa Sharber had 29 assists and 7 digs.  Carlotta Pascual and Sydney Deig both had 6 kills.  Haley Duffey had 6 digs.  The Lady Wildcats are now 10-5 on the season.

CONGRATULATIONS:

The Mt. Vernon Lady Wildcat golfers took home 2nd place in the 13 team Pocket Athletic Conference tournament Monday evening.  The team score of 189 was a season best for the Cats and was second only to Gibson Southern.  Junior Hadley Weatherford earned PAC All-Conference honors with a 7th best score of 44.  Seniors Olivia Culley and Haley Rutledge had 45 and 49 respectively.  Hannah Carr shot a 51 and Jillian Higginson shot a 57 which helped secure the final score.

  • Looking for extra help with your classes? Peer tutoring is resuming on Tuesday, September 6th at 7:30 AM every morning in the Media Center. Students can receive help on any subject, all they have to do is show up!

CONGRATULATIONS:

Congratulations to the boys and girls cross country teams for their strong performance at Gibson Southern.  Several runners from Mt. Vernon just missed out on receiving ribbons.  Three Mt. Vernon girls did receive ribbons.  Ashley Lilleston placed 24th in the Junior/Senior girls race.  Avery Stills received a ribbon for a 17th place finish in the Freshman/Sophomore girls race.  The highest place of the evening and receiving a ribbon for 15th place was Brynn Davis.

The Lady Cat golfers continued to improve against Mt. Carmel and Princeton, with a 2nd place finish.  The team was led by Hadley Weatherford with a 45, Liv Culley with 51, Haley Rutledge with 52, and Hannah Carr with her personal best of 54.

GRADUATION PRODUCTS:
There will be a senior class informational meeting regarding graduation products with Josten’s rep.on Friday, September 2nd (8:15-8:35) in the PAC.
CLASS RINGS:
There will be a sophomore class information meeting regarding class rings with Josten’s rep. on Friday, September 2nd (9:45am-10:05am) in the PAC.
