About Mount Vernon Junior High School

At Mt. Vernon Junior High, we emphasize opportunity, a growth mindset, hard work, meaningful relationships, and perseverance. We are committed to providing a safe and supportive learning environment where all students are encouraged to pursue excellence both in and out of the classroom.

Our dedicated staff of 34 highly effective teachers approach each day with enthusiasm and a student-first mindset, always striving to do what is best for kids. We believe in meeting students where they are and helping them grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

In addition to strong academics, we offer a wide range of extracurricular opportunities—including athletics, clubs, and fine arts programs—that allow students to explore their interests, build confidence, and develop leadership skills. These experiences are an important part of helping our students become well-rounded individuals who are prepared for success in high school and beyond.

A Message From the Principal

I joined the Mt. Vernon community in 2011 as a teaching assistant in the Opportunity Center and as the head coach of the high school basketball team. Since then, I've served in a variety of roles including teacher, coach, assistant athletic director, assistant principal, and, since 2018, the proud principal of Mt. Vernon Junior High School.

My family and I are deeply invested in this community. My wife, Nikki, and our two sons—Leo (MVHS Class of 2022) and Nash (MVHS Class of 2026)—share a strong commitment to helping Mt. Vernon grow and thrive as one of the premier school districts in Southern Indiana.

Growing up on a farm in a small Greene County community, along with experiences as a college basketball player, and years of coaching and teaching at both the high school and collegiate levels, have provided me with a wide range of perspectives. These experiences have shaped the way I approach leadership, problem-solving, and the work we do every day for kids.

I hold a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and have spent much of my life studying what makes great leaders and effective decision-makers.

My personal philosophy is simple: approach each day with enthusiasm, maintain a growth mindset, and work extremely hard. I believe in leading by example, and I hope my actions each day inspire others to be the best versions of themselves—while doing everything I can to make a positive impact in the life of a young person
