Mount Vernon

The Metropolitan School District of Mt. Vernon is proud to be the heart of Posey County. With three elementary schools, one junior high, and one high school, we provide a small-town education with big opportunities. Our small class sizes and personalized learning environment ensure every student is known, supported, and inspired to thrive as they prepare for the next step in life, from kindergarten through senior year.

Excellence begins at the elementary level, with two schools achieving over a 98% IREAD pass rate. We prioritize STEM education by offering STEM learning opportunities in every grade, K–12. Career exploration begins in junior high, and at Mt. Vernon High School, students can choose from a wide variety of career pathways that prepare them for college, technical training, military service, or direct entry into the workforce.

Athletics are a point of pride, with state-level athletes in wrestling, swimming, track and field, softball, and more. K–12 student-athletes are supported by some of the area's premier facilities, including the region's only in-house high school pool and the Wildcat Athletic Complex (WAC), Mt. Vernon's indoor training facility.

Mt. Vernon's supportive and welcoming community, commitment to career readiness, and exceptional academic, extracurricular, and athletic opportunities make our district an outstanding choice for families in Posey County.
