TO THE STUDENTS

  • Any male interested in being a cheer lifter for basketball season, email or see Mrs. Schneider this week.
  • November 7, 14 and 21 at 3:30 p.m. - Teen Cuisine - Tiffany Haug of Purdue Extension will be at the Alexandrian Public Library to teach teens about nutrition and cooking. For high school students (ages 14-18). Designed to equip teens with necessary life skills and the knowledge to make healthier choices, Teen Cuisine also features exciting hands-on cooking classes and pulse-rising exercise sessions. Registration is open.
  • The senior ceiling tile painting day is still scheduled for this Saturday, November 5th. Hours to come and paint are 10:00 am- 2 pm. For those attending, make sure to go out and purchase your own paints and paintbrushes because they will not be provided. It is not too late to turn in your form to attend the event if you haven’t yet.
  • Are you a good detective?  Want to participate in solving a mystery?  If you can solve all 6 clues throughout the week you could win 2 free tickets to the upcoming production of “Clue” here at the MV Performing Arts Center and a $25.00 gift card to AMC!

  • "National Honor Society members should check their email for an officer ballot.  The ballot needs to be completed by this Friday."
  • There is a coat drive going on in the Media Center.  Please bring your gently used coats to the donation box. 
  • Picture Retake Day has been rescheduled to Tuesday, October 25th
  • The senior ceiling tile painting day is November 5th from 11am-6pm. Forms to attend the event are now in Mr. Krizan’s room to be picked up. This form must be filled out and turned in to Mr Krizan by Friday, October 21 in order to participate.
  • Don't be scared! You've got time to order Boo grams! Student Council will be selling Boo Grams October 17-28 every morning in both foyers and Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during lunches. Grams are $1, and will be delivered on Halloween. 
  • Friday night is the 1st round of Football sectionals and we are hosting Owen Valley with kick-off at 7:00 PM.  Tickets are $7 and MVHS passes (including all-season passes, punch passes and athlete sport passes) WILL NOT be accepted.
  • "Freshman Academy field trip forms are due by next week.  Don't delay, turn yours in today.  Extra forms beyond the two you've already been given can be picked up from Mr. Bacon, if you use people skills."

CONGRATULATIONS:

  • The MVHS marching band advanced to state semi-finals and was awarded distinction in visual performance!
  • The Wildcats finished off the regular season with a big win over Washington last night 56-0. The Cats scored 21 points in each of the first two quarters to hold a huge 42-0 lead at halftime and a running clock in the second half.  The Cats were led in rushing by junior RB Kortez Stewart, who rushed for 162 yards and 2 TDs (61 and 71 yd runs). The Cats totaled 363 yards rushing as a team, as multiple backs had good nights carrying the ball. Ryder Snodgrass punched in 2 TDs on the ground as well.   Nicot Burnett passed for 4 TDs to lead the aerial attack. He connected with Jackson Clowers for 2 , Hunter Pedrotti, and Brady Schickel for passing scores.   Defensively, the Cats shutout the Hatchets by playing with great effort and enthusiasm. Defensive linemen Payne Healy, Abe Thomas, Beau Baldwin, Brady Ford, and Brady Schickel were in the Hatchets backfield all game long. Schickel was able to add 2 more sacks to his impressive season total. Colten Schneider had a big night at linebacker, leading the Cats in tackles and registering a sack; his senior linebacker teammate Ethan Yarber was not far behind in tackles on the night, as the duo attacked the Washington ball carriers all game long. Senior Darius Hawkins had 3 tackles, including a forced fumble that was recovered by teammate Ryan Kelley.   The Wildcats finish the regular season with a 5-4 record; which makes it 5 straight regular seasons with a winning record for MV Football. The Cats open sectional play against the Owen Valley Patriots next Friday at home, kickoff at 7pm. We need all of Mount Vernon to be in attendance to help us knock off the Patriots! Go Cats!

  • Come out tonight for the last regular season home football game.  It is Pink Out in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month.  FCCLA, Booster Club and the cheerleaders will be collecting money for Cancer Pathways Midwest.  There will be buckets for each grade level to see which grade can donate the most!  Bring your school spirit, wear your pink and donate generously!

  • Tuesday's Home volleyball game against Tecumseh will be a "Rally for Rylie" game. Extra shirts are for sale in Mrs. DeVault's room for $18 and we will be taking donations during the game to help support Rylie and her family. 
  • Art Guild members, past and new, there will be a meeting tomorrow morning at 7:30 in F104 Mrs. Glaser’s room. We will be planning for the first in-school meeting and fall events.
  • Wednesday, October 5th Clubs will start - 1st Club Cluster Meeting.

CONGRATULATIONS:

  • Girls Varsity Volleyball beat Forest Park 3-2.   The Lady Wildcats won the 5 game match against Forest Park, and posted big numbers in multiple stats. Mallory Nurrenbern led the offense with 60 total swings leading to 27 kills. Carlotta Pascual added 11 kills to the offense. Brooke Sledd led the team defensively with 28 digs, and 38 serve receive receptions. Haley Duffey also had 19 digs for the MV defense. Kaleigh Kelley added 34 assists to the offense, and 8 kills. Cassidy Jones also had 3 aces.

TO THE STUDENTS:

  • Ms. Haley’s 3rd & 4th period classes should report to the media center.
  • This is Free Money Friday!  Want free money for college?  The best way to start is to complete the FAFSA, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, during your senior year. Indiana is 1st in the Midwest and 5th in the nation for providing state financial aid.  Also, by completing the FAFSA you are eligible for federal student loans which have better rates, repayment options, and forgiveness options than bank loans.Some scholarships require the FAFSA and some colleges won’t give institutional scholarships unless it has been completed.The FAFSA opens tomorrow, and the Indiana filing deadline is April 15.  MVHS will have financial aid night on October 20 at 6:00.  If you would like assistance completing the FAFSA, there is a help day on Nov 6 from 2-4 at Ivy Tech for all area students.  If you have financial aid questions, see Mrs. Rose in the Counseling Office.

TO THE STUDENTS:

  • Going into an apprenticeship because you don’t like school? Math skills are used in many trades such as construction workers, electricians, machinists, welders, plumbers, electric line workers, and many more.  So give yourself the best opportunity to be accepted into the trade you want by learning as much as you can while you are in high school! 
  •       67% of new jobs will require some sort of training after high school.  Students should consider certifications, 1 year programs, an associate or bachelor degree, apprenticeship, or the military.
  •       Pictures from yesterday’s scavenger hunt are posted in the cafeteria. 
  •       College Go! Week’s activity tomorrow:  Your future starts here, wear maroon, gray and white!
  • Today is the girl’s last soccer game of the regular season! SAC wants everyone to fill the stands tonight, and the theme is maroon out. The game is 5:30 pm at home. We hope to see you there!

TO THE STUDENTS:

  • Mrs. Kavanaugh’s 3rd & 4th period classes should report to the media center for class today.
  • Today is the scavenger hunt for College Go! Week.  Pictures of MVHS employees when they were in college are spread throughout the school.  When you find one, take a pic.  The first person to find 10 of the 13 and email them to Mrs. Rose at rosear@mvschool.org or text them to  812-266-0330 will win a prize.  Make sure to include your name in the text.  Mrs. Rose will be outside of the auxiliary gym during lunch to assist with college apps and answer questions. 

       College Go! Week’s activity tomorrow:  Your future’s so bright, wear neon!

  • Students can purchase parking tags in the bookstore for $10.
